Introduction

From the Dosimetry menu select Dose Calc. Options and then Physics....

Physics data in version 5 is imported every time the program launches from tab delimited text (MacOS filetype TEXT) files (e.g. I-125(IAI-125A).iphys.htm). You can create, review or edit the data in the text files using Microsoft Excel or a text editor such as BBEdit, or directly in Plaque Simulator and then export the text file. This tutorial will take you through the steps necessary to create a custom physics file from within Plaque Simulator.

The physics dialog

This will open the Plaque Simulator Physics dialog. The file for which data is currently displayed in the dialog is selected from the Source: popup menu at the top of the dialog. In this example, I-125 (6711 TG43U1) seeds are the currently selected source.

The Physics dialog has 7 tab selectable panes which organize the required data into functional groups. Click on the links below to learn more about each group.

Exporting the .iphys file

When all the required data for the selected Source has been entered, click the Export button. This opens the Save file navigator. Physics data for version 5 is exported (and imported) as tab delimited text files (e.g. I-125(IAI-125A).iphys) which end with the ".iphys" tag. Physics files should be stored in the Physics folder in the Plaque Simulator Data folder.

When Plaque Simulator exports a physics file it sets the MacOS file type to TEXT and the creator to XCEL. This allows you to simply click on these files in the MacOS Finder and they will open automatically in the Excel component of Microsoft Office vX for editing or verifying data. After you have saved your xxxx.iphys file and been returned to the Physics dialog, click the Reload button. Plaque Simulator will rescan the Data folder for physics files and rebuild the Source popup menu in the Physics dialog. Click the OK button to exit the Physics dialog.
