Shell Editor Parameters Sheet

Shell and seed carrier properties are set in this dialog sheet that is accessed using the Params... button in the Shell Editor window. These values should only be changed when designing a new model of plaque. Beta patch source values can also be reviewed and edited here without going through the normal calibration procedure. The preferred loading view is set at the bottom of the dialog. For example, seeds are loaded into slots carved into the face (concave side) of an Eye Physics plaque, whereas seeds are loaded into the back (convex side) of the silicone carrier of a COMS plaque.

These are typical shell and carrier parameter settings for a COMS plaque.

  • In the Shell type control group:
    • Gold - The shell of a COMS plaque is made of gold alloy.
    • Straight lip - The perimeter lip of a COMS plaque is straight (it has to hold the silicone seed carrier).
  • In the Dose calculations control group:
    • Prefer circular lip method - uses the much faster analytical (vs ray-trace) collimation algorithm if the plaque has a COMS style lip and is nearly circular. Enable for COMS and ROPES plaques. Plaques with notches will automatically revert to the ray trace method.
    • Enable lip analysis - automatically chooses the fastest available collimation algorithm. Enabled by default.
    • Plaque has collimating slots - indicates that this plaque has collimating seed slots. Disable for COMS, ROPES and similar plaques with non-collimating seed carriers.
  • In the Carrier parameters control group:
    • Material - The carrier is made of Silastic brand silicone.
    • Geometry - The default radionuclide geometry is a line source.
ShellAndCarrierParametersCOMS

These are typical shell and carrier parameter settings for an Eye Physics plaque.

  • In the Shell type control group:
    • Gold - The shell of an Eye Physics (EP) plaque is made of gold alloy.
    • Rounded edge - The perimeter edge of an EP plaque is rounded.
  • In the Dose calculations control group:
    • Prefer circular lip method - uses a much faster analytical (vs ray-trace) collimation algorithm if the plaque has a COMS style lip and is nearly circular. Disable for EP and similar plaques with rounded edges.
    • Enable lip analysis - automatically chooses the fastest available collimation algorithm. Enabled by default.
    • Plaque has collimating slots - indicates that this plaque is has EP style collimating slots and sets dose calculation methods accordingly.
  • In the Carrier parameters control group:
    • Material - EP plaques have no seed carrier.
    • Geometry - The default radionuclide geometry is a line source.
ShellAndCarrierParametersEP

These are typical shell and carrier parameter settings for a BEBIG plaque.

  • In the Shell type control group:
    • Silver - The shell of a BEBIG plaque is made of silver.
  • In the Carrier parameters control group:
    • Geometry - The default radionuclide geometry is the beta patch source.
