Plaque Central AXis (CAX) table referenced to the plaque face

The table of dose to various points which occupies the right side of the Prescription (Rx) window can be customized in the CAX Table Options sheet.

  • CAX is an acronym for the Central AXis of the plaque.
  • Distance listed in the CAX table can be referenced to zero at either the concave surface (face) of the plaque or at 1 mm from the face of the plaque. When the plaque face is touching the external surface of the sclera, 1 mm in front of the plaque face corresponds, approximately, to the location of the retina on the inner surface of the sclera.
  • This example illustrates a plaque CAX table, referenced to zero distance at the plaque face. The dome shaped tumor is 5 mm tall as measured from the inner sclera. A dose of 85 Gy has been prescribed to the apex of the tumor. The Rx point is therefore at a distance of 6 mm from the face of the plaque.

Tumor AXis (TAX) table referenced to the external sclera below the tumor base

TAXSetup
  • TAX is an acronym for the Tumor AXis which is a ray cast from the geometric center of the tumor base through the tumor apex.
  • Distances listed in the TAX table can be referenced to zero at either the external or inner surface of the sclera below the tumor base.
  • This example illustrates a plaque TAX table, referenced to zero distance at the external sclera below the tumor base. The peak shaped tumor is 3 mm tall as measured from the inner sclera, its apex is not centered. A dose of 85 Gy has been prescribed to a point on a TAX 5 mm from the inner sclera at the base of the tumor (Note: in this example the TAX table distances are referenced to the external sclera below the tumor whereas the Rx distance is referenced to the inner sclera below the tumor base, so the Rx distance is not equivalent to any distances the table).
